Crystals for throat chakra

If you lack good communication skills, struggle to be assertive, find it hard to speak honestly or tend to be a poor listener, your throat chakra may be to blame – and these gemstones can help.

A blue crystal

The throat chakra (5th – Vishuddha) is the centre for communication and self-expression. Found at the base of the neck with a light blue colour, it allows energy from the six other main chakras to be expressed.

It’s also the first of the spiritual chakras and is said to be connected to the Thyroid and Parathyroid gland. Known as the ‘soul’s gate,’ the throat chakra is the link between the heart and head.

When the throat chakra is unbalanced, communication becomes more difficult. It’s harder to speak honestly and be true to your feelings, which can lead to frustration. You may also find it harder to access your creative mind.

One of the best ways to balance an underactive or overactive throat chakra is by using crystals. The nine Throat Chakra stones in this article can boost self-confidence and communication, which may improve relationships and ease self-judgement. As the Vishuddha is linked to the Sacral Chakra (seat of our emotions and creativity), the best crystals for the Throat Chakra can also allow us to express creativity through writing, thought and the spoken word.

  • Try wearing crystals in jewellery around your neck to enhance their specific properties.

  1. Thank you for sharing these tips – I have been using lapis with amethyst and clear quartz for throat chakra and was wondering if you would recommend this combination? The Lapis lazuli is definitely vibrating – and I hoped the quartz and amethyst would amplify the effects? Grateful for your insight into this.

  2. Hi Glenn, thank you for your comment and interest in Angel Grotto. Yes, those three crystals are great for opening and energising the Throat Chakra.

Lapis lazuli is a good for releasing problems in the Throat Chakra, and clear quartz is brilliant, as you say, for enhancing the vibrations of other crystals. Amethyst is spiritually aligning, so you can’t go wrong there, but if you have a specific focus then maybe choose a crystal whose energy resonates more with this.

Aquamarine is another good option. It brings a powerful-yet-peaceful energy to the Throat Chakra which may be helpful. Maybe you could try alternating aquamarine with lapis lazuli to feel the difference.

    Hope this helps.

    • Hi and thank you for your comment. Of course, you should visit a doctor for any medical problems, but there are a few crystals that may complement treatments recommended by your doctor.

I’d suggest aquamarine to release tension in the neck and help you to speak honestly. Combine this with amethyst and clear quartz for a phenomenal combination. If you’re holding an element of repressed anger, add lapis lazuli, and use blue kyanite at times when unable to talk as it’s the Speakers Stone.

You can sleep with amethyst under your pillow or wear any of these crystals as jewellery. Hope that helps!

  4. Hi! I have been having trouble speaking to my boss. Whenever I say something, it ends up being misunderstood by him. What is the best crystal to use?

    • Hi EmJay, thank you for your question.

I suggest you use blue lace agate, as it’s the stone of articulation. Lapis lazuli may be helpful for balancing the Throat Chakra. Also, I feel you need to stay grounded, so carry hematite with you. This will help you stay focused on the current moment.

  5. Hi Mary: Interesting stuff. One word of caution about the apatite. It seems to sequester native uranium and thorium so tends to be very mildly radioactive. Safe enough to have as display items but not such a good idea to wear in contact with your body for long periods of time such as in jewelry and certainly not around your neck next to your thyroid. But don’t just take my word for it, just find yourself a nice science nerd and us his geiger counter to check it for yourself. Here’s a few more blue rocks and minerals to try on: dumortierite, Turkish blue chalcedony, covellite, chrysocolla, glaucophane, sapphire, hawk eye, cordierite (iolite), celestite, cavansite, larimar, tanzanite, blue topaz, and vivianite. Cheers! m

    • Hi Mark, Thank you for your comment. Yes, I’m aware there may be trace amounts of uranium in apatite, and this is a really useful contribution to the content. Thank you. I love your suggestions of other Throat Chakra crystals.

    • Hi Deeps, thank you for your comment. I am sure you understand that I can’t comment on your medical condition. However, you may benefit from balancing your Throat Chakra. Aquamarine is wonderful, as is the soothing Chinese serpentine (bowenite) or green jade. A garnet, blue lace agate or lapis lazuli necklace would be lovely.
